Calling all Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador girls for our Sawdust Series!

All sessions are required to complete this series.

SAWDUST 1: Tool Safety & First Projects (5/15)

Every great project starts will a solid foundation!

Get hands-on with the basics of woodworking and learn the essential skills for safe tool use. In this session, we’ll explore common tools like hammers, saws, and drills while practicing safety techniques. We’ll also complete a fun mini hammering challenge, and finish by personalizing a tool apron or toolbox to emphasize safety and organization in your woodworking journey.

SAWDUST 2: Measuring & Sawing Techniques (5/29)

Measure twice, cut once! Here, we’ll focus on accuracy!

You’ll practice measuring and marking materials with tools like measuring tapes and squares, ensuring your cuts are precise. We’ll also dive into basic sawing techniques, allowing you to cut your own materials or work with pre-cut pieces. By the end, you’ll start building a wooden frame or small box, getting ready for the next steps in your project.

SAWDUST 3: Drilling & Fastening (6/12)

Now that you’ve learned the basics, it's time to dive deeper into the world of fastening.

In this session, you’ll safely learn how to use a drill and distinguish between screws and nails. You'll practice drilling holes and driving screws to assemble wooden pieces into a functional project—whether it’s a birdhouse, shelf, or crate—using the materials from previous meetings.

SAWDUST 4: Sanding & Finishing Techniques (6/26)

The finishing touch makes all the difference.

In this session, we’ll focus on perfecting your projects. You’ll learn how to use sanding techniques to smooth rough edges and achieve a flawless finish. We'll also explore painting versus staining, letting you choose how to personalize your project. To add a creative touch, you can decorate your piece with stenciling, wood burning, or other custom details, making each project uniquely yours.

SAWDUST 5: Final Touches & Project Prep (7/10)

From beginner to builder, look how far you’ve come!

This is the moment to perfect your work! You’ll finish sanding any rough edges, apply a second coat of paint or stain, and attach any remaining hardware, such as handles or hinges. Once everything is in place, we’ll inspect your projects to ensure they’re ready for the showcase. With the workspace cleaned and everything prepped, you'll be ready for the big reveal in the next session.

SAWDUST 6: Project Showcase & Celebration (7/24)

It’s time to shine!

In this final session, you'll present your completed woodworking projects at a "woodworking fair" where you’ll showcase your skills. Each participant will share their creation and reflect on the challenges and skills they learned. The session wraps up with a reflection on how woodworking can be useful in everyday life, followed by awards, certificates, and a celebratory group photo to commemorate your hard work.
